Frosty season

Hello everyone, well it looks as if winter has descended upon us. We have had the cold temperatures and now we have the snow. With this in mind I wanted to discuss a few things.

Chap stick: The cold wind is very damaging to the children’s lips. I have had numerous kids coming to me with dry, cracked and chapped lips. Some have even started to bleed. I apply a thin layer of Vaseline, which is very soothing for them and helps tremendously. Please try and send a tube of Chap Stick with them so they can apply it themselves whenever they need to. This will be much better for them instead of having to disrupt their studies by leaving the classroom and coming to me. If you do decide to send this be sure and explain to them that this is for their use only and not to share it with their friends.

Outdoor attire: With the kids waiting outside before and after school and with outdoor recess, it is important that they are dressed warmly. I have seen many who do not have mittens, hats or scarves. Their poor little hands get so cold and red while outside. Lets help prevent any unnecessary illnesses with the proper outside clothing.

Recess: Children need their playtime and recess is the time for this. Also, fresh air is as important as eating well and sleeping enough. Please remember, the children go OUTSIDE for recess if the temperature is above 20 and the wind-chill is over 0. If your child needs to be excused from going out because of a health or medical reason, we will need a Dr's note in order to keep them inside.

Thank you, I wish you all a healthy and happy holiday season.
