Robin Altschul's Blog
We spent the first few days  getting acquainted with our new friends. Miss C.C. and Ms. Knowles introduced themselves to the students and are very excited to be working with the children.Â
This week, the morning groups will be focusing on the letters "M" and "F". The afternoon groups focused on the letter "M".  The students practiced writing the uppercase and lowecase letter "M". They used chips and fake pennies to fill up the letter "M". We found out it took 26 chips to do this! Wow!  Your child will be bringing home this page this today. Ask him/her to show you how they filled in the circles. You can use other materials that can be found at home such as buttons, stickers, etc.Â
Additionally, the students created the letter "M" with play dough. That was really fun to watch and a grea tactile/hands-on activity. We will try and change the tactile activity every so often. Some of the "M" words that were discussed were "monkey", "moon", "money", "mouse", "monster", "mittens" and "milk". The letter "F" words included "frog", "roof", "fish", "scarf", "fox", "leaf", "wolf", and "feather".
It's always helpful to reinforce letters and sounds at home with additional practice. Ask your child what words begin with or have the letter/sound "M" and "F" in them.Â
The students will be bringing home their completed work from the Readiness groups every Thursday and/or Friday. Please look for that in their "Take Home" folders.Â
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.Â
Sincerely,
Robin Altschul
