Fevers
Dear Parents, I think now is a good time to review the policy on fevers.
When a child has a temperature of 99.4 or higher they should stay home from school. If they develop the fever while in school they will be sent home. The next step is very important. They can only return to school when their temperature is under 99.0 for a straight 24 hour period without the use of medicine to keep it down. That means the first time you get a temperature under 99.0 you start the 24 hour countdown, if at any time the temperature goes above 99.0 you must start a new 24 hour period. This is for the health and well-being of your child and all the other children and staff in the building. Viruses and bacterias can be very pesky and even though someone does not have a high fever this does not mean that something is not starting. Low grade fevers should be treated with rest and plenty of fluids.
Be prepared for me to ask what your childs temperature is if I have sent them home. If you do not have a thermometer you can purchase one at any local store like Osco, Walgreens, Wal Mart, Target or K-Mart. My only concern is to try and keep everyone as healthy as possible as we head into the fall and eventually winter seasons.
Please review the health policy in the handbook at the bottom of page 7.
