Classroom News & Happenings

Our class has been tracking the weather and we’ve decided that this is a very wintry winter.  We have been learning so much.  We started Dog Therapy with Nita and then Bridget.  For the students who are able to participate, the dogs have shown us how to listen and wait for your turn.

We have O.T. group with Ms. Jen each week.  We are learning about penguins and other winter animals, mittens and snowmen.

Each month we have our Todd Hall Friends join us with their teacher.  We have made “getting to know you books” with self-portraits and “my favorite things” included.  We also made Valentines Day cards for our families.  We really enjoy our time with our Todd Hall Friends.

During Speech our class has been reading winter stories and talking about winter.  We’ve read, The Mitten, “When Will It Snow?” and we’ve also talked about what to do in the snow, what kind of clothing we need to wear when we play in the snow and of

course Snowman Soup.

Every Friday we have cooking with our friends from Rutledge Hall.  They come over to our room and we all cook together.  We’ve made Squirrel Snack Bags, Vegetable Soup, Snowman Soup, Pumpkin Milk Shakes and the list goes on and on.

We’ve also learned about Story Building, we work on the Beginning, Characters, Setting, Events and the Solution.  We are also sequencing the stories.

Music is great with Marley, we become penguins and dance, and we also love all of the instruments we play.

Each day after lunch we have hygiene group.  We talk about the importance of washing your hands and face, brushing teeth, combing hair.  Each student has their own basket with a mirror, toothbrush, and comb and lip balm.

In the spring we will begin working on our Rain Forest.  We will be creating a real Rain Forest canopy with many animals right here in our room.
