Welcome Back!
It is hard to believe that we are beginning our third week back in school!
A few reminders...my e-mail address has changed to jdekrell@sd74.org. Please don't hesitate to e-mail our call me if you have any questions or concerns. Also, Reading Records were sent home for the first time last week. Please remember to sign these nightly and send back with your child each day. Daily reading is an important daily assignment and is a requirement for participating in monthly Rah-Rah parties. Â
In reading, we are beginning with a review of short vowels and will then proceed to begin learning long vowel sounds with "the magic e." We will also be using a new reading program this year called Horizons. Horizons helps to build reading fluency and comprehension skills. Â
In math, we are reviewing Touch Math touch points, skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's, telling time to 15 minute intervals, and building basic addition fluency. We will also begin a unit next week on money. Please send your child with a small ziplock bag of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters that we can use to help with coin identification and couting exercises.
Last week I sent home a quiz that was given to your child asking them to identify their home address, telephone number, and birthday. It is important that every child know this basic information so please practice with them regularly. Â
I am looking forward to seeing you on Curriculum Night!
