Of course we enjoyed our alphabet countdown! On U day we wore red, white, and blue, and we learned about the U.S.A. On V day we wrote about our plans for summer vacation, and W was for water balloons! You can just imagine the fun we had outside! We had an extra recess on X day, and today we wore yellow for Y day. Z is for zero days left!!! Look for your child's countdown journal in their red folders today. I think you'll enjoy reading them.
We finished our last spelling unit of the year today! The children took their final spelling test of the year. The first grade spelling program was designed to help children read and write better, and I think it did exactly that. This year the children learned how to spell important sight words, long and short vowel spelling patterns, words with r-controlled vowels, and words with consonant blends. Wow!!!! Way to go!!!
We finished our first grade math program this week! What an accomplishment!!!! We reviewed place value through hundreds, and we played some of our favorite math games. I hope you read and saved the final math letter I sent home. It lists some useful ways to help your child retain math skills over the summer.
The children enjoyed some end-of-the-year activities. On Move-Up Day, we visited Mrs. Cook’s second grade classroom to learn about second grade. The visit to her room definitely made the children feel less nervous about starting a new grade. Then we welcomed Ms. Muno’s Kindergarten class to Room 207! We played a game with the incoming first graders to teach them about all the excitement in store for them next year. We also welcomed some of my former students in Mrs. McAdams’ second grade class. They visited our room to read one of their stories to our class. It was a special treat to host them!
News from Room 207
It is hard to believe this is the last newsletter I will write. Where did the time go? Thank you for reading our weekly updates and for staying involved with your child’s learning.
Most of all, thank you for a special year!
