Dear Parents-
Here are the top ten things we did this week:
1. We continued with Eric Carle books which the children loved.
2. After reading The Tiny Seed in review, we matched the parts of a flower to a picture.
3. We used our sequencing skills to put together a little booklet on the growth of a plant from seed to mature plant.
4. The sound of “ed” at the end of a word can be heard three ways. We sorted the words which had this ending. It was a challenging task, knowing in which column to put words like ‘played’, ‘melted’ and ‘walked’.
5. Since we are having some short readers’ theater plays for the authors’ tea, we spent some time rehearsing the plays.
6. Our A-Z countdown went like this:
Monday was L for lemonade, Tuesday was M for Ms. McElligatt, Wednesday was N for the number of kids in first grade, Thursday was Orange for an orange snack and Friday was P for Pizza lunch. Next Tuesday will be Q for question.
7. We learned how to write a friendly letter and they went in the mailbox on Friday.
Hope the children enjoy receiving something in the mail for themselves!
8. We also wrote letters to Eric Carle. In them we talked about our favorite of his
books. For some children, this was hard as they like so many of this author’s books.
9. In math, we are doing a lot of review of basic facts and working for much more
speed in our calculations. The children are all doing better in their timed tests.
10. Mrs. Levine from the Lincolnwood Public Library came to our school to tell the
students about the summer program called, “Get In The Game, Read!”. More information came home in a flyer earlier in the week.
***Reminders***
➢ Our first grade picnic will be held on Thursday, May 29th at Proesel Park. All parents are welcome to attend.
