Dear Parents-
Here are the top 10 things we did this week.
1. We enjoyed walking during Monday’s Walkathon, sponsored by the PTA. What a lovely day to get out and move!
2. Our A-Z countdown went this way: Monday, green; Tuesday, happy; Wednesday, initials; Thursday, jumping jacks and Friday, design a kite.
3. We had our district safety drill with the Lincolnwood Police Department on Tuesday.
4. The children are no longer taking home books from the library, but they will still go to the library on Wednesdays.
5. The children won an extra free time for their good behavior this week and by the number of compliments they received from other teachers in the hall. Way to go, room 209!
6. What a wonderful ART ON PARADE we had on Wednesday, hosted by Mrs. Kathe Whited, her artist friend, Mrs. B and Mrs. Trisha Rodriguez. The children learned about the artist Escher who used repeated patterns in his work to make stunning pictures. The students then had a chance to make some of their own patterns. Very effective. Mrs. Whited bought a beautiful art book for the class to share in the class library. Thank you so much!
7. We read “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle. To respond to the theme of the book (as well as his style of collage) we made pretty little pictures about the parts of a flower and what the parts do. Very cute!
8. We reviewed contractions and how two words can become one. For example, the words “they will” can become “they’ll” or “I have” can become “I’ve”.
9. We had our spelling review test this morning and most children did very well. Please review the words your child didn’t know on the test.
10. In math, we have been moving slowly throught unit 10 which is another kind of review of the year’s work. We will continue with review over the next three weeks so that the children will become secure in the areas that are difficult for them.
11. O. K. We have 11 top things this week!
In writers’ workshop, we have been writing many stories so that the children can read a selection of theirs (to you) at the Authors’ Tea on Wednesday, May 28th at 9:00 a.m. An invitation will be coming home soon so that you can RSVP. The tea will last about one hour.
***Reminders***
* Please return the permission form and $2.00 for the 1st grade picnic on May 29th at Proesel Park. All parents are welcome to join us.
* Thank you for sending in your responses to the bird reports. I am very happy to say the students did such a good job!
Have a great weekend!
