Dear Parents,
We were so excited to have another Mystery Reader this week. A huge THANK YOU to Sophia Agos, Steven’s sister. She read a terrific story called, The Night Pirates! The children gave her a huge round of a well-deserved applause.

We continued our author study about Eric Carle. Our student teacher, Ms. Austine Tabamo, presented several engaging lessons. The children loved the story, A House For Hermit Crab, and wrote and drew about Hermit the Crab using a character puzzle. After reading, Pancakes, Pancakes, the children made a connection to making something with someone, using the words: first, next, then, and last. We also read Eric Carle’s The Tiny Seed. The children created a flower and added labels for each of its parts, which they read to a partner. Then they planted sunflower seeds that have already started to grow. We reviewed the different sounds for the ed ending. Ask your child the three different sounds ed can make at the end of a word as in liked, melted, and yelled. We also reviewed contractions and played a memory game matching two words to the contraction - example -(I am - I’m), (I will, I’ll).
THANK YOU to the PTA for putting together the wonderful Walkathon! Everyone had a happy, healthy time – and we had great weather too!
In writing workshop we are rehearsing for our Authors’ Tea.
In math, the children made their own pretend pizza cut in halves, quarters, or eighths. Then we sat in a circle and traded “equivalent” fractional amounts and created fractional a number sentence to match their pizza. Next week we will have an assessment on Unit 9, and start Unit 10, which is a review unit.
We had FOUR birthdays this week!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to JANNETTE GONZALEZ - her birthday was on Monday, and then we celebrated three summer birthdays - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO STEVEN AGOS, JOHN ZERVOS AND MICHAEL YOUNAN!
***Please send a sturdy shopping bag to school with your child. They need something to bring home their Writing Workshop folders and Portfolios. Thanks!
***Reminder---Our Authors’ Tea is next week-Thurs., May 22nd, at 9 AM.
Have a great weekend!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Cheryl Trilling
and Austine Tabamo
