Top Ten Things in Room 311- 05/16/2008
1. RAH RAH Party- Students who read the necessary amount of days for the March/April reading incentive program were rewarded with a walking field trip to the Lincolnwood Library.
2. Weather Experiments- All second grade classrooms participated in three days of hands-on weather experiments. The students had the opportunity to go to other second grade classrooms and build kites, parachutes, pinwheels and more. On Friday, we went outside and tried out our new wind projects!
3. Walk-a-Thon- Every student and teacher in District #74 participated in the our first annual Walk-A-Thon. The purpose fo the Walk-A-Thon was to raise money for the PTA and awareness of heathly lifestyle habits.
4. All School Study- This year we studied the country of South Korea for our All School Study. The students saw live Korean Dancers and Tae Kwon Do performers, tasted yummy Korean treats, listened to Korean stories read aloud by special guest readers and created a "Good Wish Pouch" as an art project. It was a very exciting and educational day!
5. Spring "Picture Day"- All student were tested in the library for their spring reading fluency.
6. Reading to Younger Students- This week, we visited younger students in both Mrs. Govostis' class and Mrs. Shankar's class. We spent about 20 minutes reading stories to them in partners. It was very fun!
7. Special Project- Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Shaker and Mrs. Adler visited our classroom to do a secret special project with us. We can't tell Ms. Pappas what it is!
8. Art on Parade- Mrs. Dondlinger and Mrs. Collins visted our classroom today to teach us about the famous artist M.C. Escher. We then created M.C. Escher-like pieces of art made out of construction showing negative and positive space and presented them to the class. They were beautiful.
9. Word Winner- We reached our goal for using our Text Talk vocabulary words within everyday context at least 10 times in one week!
