What's Happening in room 209?

Dear Parents,
Last week was Earth Week. The children listened to stories about saving our earth. Among them was Wump World by Bill Peet. The children contrasted what the world was like before and after the "Pollutians" came to earth and started to ruin everything. The students also read "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss and found out in that touching way of Dr. Seuss' that it takes all of us to guard and nourish the health of our world. Thanks to all the children who brought in and shared their "trash to treasure" projects. What creativity!! Your ideas were very clever.
In math, we are learning about fractions and stressing that each part of a fraction is the same size as the next. We are also reviewing the different ways that a number sentence can be written. This could mean 8=_+4 or it could mean 5+_= 11. We are learning that writing this type of math sentence means the same as the usual 4+4=_ or 5+6=_.
This week we will resume our study of birds. We will review the attributes of birds and begin writing our bird reports. Thank you for your help in getting the webs done and sent in.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Nelson
