Todd's "Green Team"

Green TEam

District 74 and the Response to Intervention Task Force are well underway in plan development and implementation of RtI. The district has focused on reading instruction and is now preparing to include instituting a systematic plan for addressing behavior with the adoption of Positive Behavior Intervention & Support or PBIS.

Teams from each of the three buildings attended two days of training this past week. Todd's team includes the principal, social worker, and a teacher representative from each grade level, special education, and special subject areas. This group will lead the way to incorporating positive behavior systems in the school.

The team will be sharing the plan with the faculty during the May 7th and 30th Early Releases. The current four Todd expectations have been modified to: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe and are now district wide expectations at all three schools. Each building team is in the process of describing what each of the expectations look like in each of the school environments - in the classrooms, the hallways, the lunchroom & playground, on the bus, in the bathrooms, andso on. These expectations and school rules will be taught to all studentsduring the first few days of the new school year. The expectations will be modeled, practiced, reviewed, reinforced, and retaught on a cyclical basis.

Positive behavior will be acknowledged with the giving of "Todd Tickets." Students will be able to earn tickets to participate in monthly school celebrations.

Major and minor behavior offenses are being identified. Major offenses get handled by office (office discipline referral or ODR) and the classroom teacher handles minor offenses. Consistent consequences and procedures will be clearly stated so that students, staff and parents understand them. Major offenses will be logged into a district database and the data will be reviewed regularly by the school PBIS team so expected behaviors can be retaught when necessary.

More information on PBIS will be shared district wide in the future. You'll learn why it's called the "Green Team" and more importantly what PBIS means to you as parents.
