February Ideas

Here are 10 things you can do at home this month:

  1. Practice saying the alphabet.  Ask what letter comes after...
  2. Look at pictures in books or magazines and have your child tell you the beginning and ending sounds
  3. Give your child a word and see if they can tell you a word that rhymes
  4. Give your child a word and have them clap the syllables
  5. Make up silly words by changing the first letter of real words, ex. for book change it to w and it becomes wook
  6. Get magnetic letters and put them on the fridge.  Have your child find letters by name and sound.
  7. Have your child put the letters in order from a to z
  8. Practice counting to 100 in recognition of the 100th day of school
  9. Have your child write the names of his/her friends on the Valentine cards for the class party
  10. Read the Valentine cards your child receives and look for familiar words, especially the sight words your child has been working on in class
I hope you enjoy these activities.  Check back next month for more at home learning ideas.
