Top Ten Things- May 14th

1.  Mayor Turry visit- The mayor of Lincolnwood visited the second grade students on Monday to discuss his job and tell us more about himself.

2.  Lincolnwood Unit- We have been learning so much about our community during our Lincolnwood unit.  We illustrated small booklets about the history of our town and created timelines highlighting the main events.

3.  Map- Outside our classrooom, there is a large map of Lincolnwood.  All the second graders have located their addresses on the map and labeled them with with photos of themsleves.  Then, we studied where each of our houses is in relation to major landmarks in Lincolnwood.

4.  Phonics- Pattern this week was adding -er or -est to the end of words to show comparisons.  Example: tall  taller  tallest

Top Ten Things- April 30th

1.  Poetry-  We learned about different rhyme schemes in poems (AABB, ABAC) and then created our own poems using these patterns.

2.  Visitors-  We had two visitors in our classroom this week.  One was a National Geographic Rep observing a science lesson and the other was a student teacher who wanted to see how we do the Daily 5 in our room.  We love having visitors!

3.  Math- We were exposed to the rules for learning our x0, x1 x2, x5, x10 facts.  Multiplication is so much fun!

4.  Science- We have been going outside each day this week to observe and record weather conditions over five days.  We will then study the data we collect and see if we notice any patterns.

Top Ten Things- April 23rd

1. Portfolio Night- It was so much fun inviting our parents into our classroom and showing them our portfolios. We have been working on them all year long, and it was nice to show them just how much we have grown and learned!

2. Earth Day- We celebrated Earth Day by planting bulbs outside our classroom and decorating recycled bags for Dominick's. Thank you to the PTA for providing these fun activities for us!

3. PBIS Celebration- We ate lunch outside with our friends!

4. Book Fair- We bought new books and fun gadgets at our PTA-run Book Fair this year. We can't get enough of all our new stuff!

5. Math- Review of basic multiplication skills.

1.) Next Wednesday- April 21st is "Portfolio Night". You should have received a confirmation of you time slot. I will be sending home another reminder on Wednesday.

2.) Writing: On Tuesday, be began writing a narrative paragraph! The students are always telling stories about what happens to them, right? We learned that when you write those stories down, they're called narratives.

3.) Science: Learning about weather is fun and interesting! The class had a lively discussion about how weather changes and the different kinds of weather, such foggy, rainy, snowy, hail, sleet, sunny, etc.

4.)Phonics: Our focus was on the "oi/oy" word pattern. We learned that that even though the word patterns look different, they still make the same sound.
