Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that May is here. The first graders are learning all about Space. We have just begun our unit on planets, moon, stars and the sun. Your child will be learning many new facts about our solar system. Why not ask them about it!

Our second graders are learning about animal habitats. Habitats we will be learning about include the rainforest, prairie, ocean, desert and artic. Students will be exposed to the types of animals that live in these environments and what helps them survive. It is sure to be a great unit!

Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents,

We had a great week learning about different subjects.

The first graders started learning about animal bodies: wings, tails, fins, flippers, and many more body parts.  The students can name the body parts of many animals.  We learned what the functions of the body parts are and we drew pictures.  Next week we will continue talking about this topic.  Some of our activities will include art projects and categorizing animals into different groups.

The second graders continued their study of maps and the world.  They now know there are many kinds of maps and all of them have different purposes.  We will start our research project next week by going to the school library to choose books to help us begin the research.

Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents,

Hope this note finds you well.

The first graders have completed their study of food and food from plants.  We did some great projects.  The students  will be bringing home work with them today. Next week we will start studying a new topic: Animal Body Parts.  We will do research about different animals.

The second graders are continuing their study of maps.  They will soon start a research project.  Each student will be learning about a different country.  They will draw a map of that country and write  many other exciting facts about that country.

Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents,

Hope everyone had a wonderful winter break.  I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.

The first graders are finishing up their units on food and food from plants.  We drew pictures of delicious and nutritious meals and turned these pictures into placemats.  We started working on our food pyramids.

The second graders started a new unit on maps.  We drew our own maps of our neighborhoods which included important places like school, our local library, and of course, the toy store.

Just a reminder- next Tuesday (13th) we will be having our ELL Family Field Trip.

It's going to be lots of fun.  Hope to see you there.

Have a nice weekend.

Dear Parents,

I just want to give you an update of what we have been doing in our classes.

The first graders are continuing their study of food. We have talked about seeds and what they will grow into. Soon we will examine seeds together in class. We have learned that we eat different parts of the plants. For example, we now know we are eating the seeds of the plant when we eat corn, and we are eating the stems of a plant when we eat celery. We also started talking about foods that are good for us and we will soon be making shopping lists of these foods. We will also be creating our own food pyramids using pictures from newspapers.
