Top Ten for Week of March 8th

Top Ten for Week of March 8th:
1. The kids have had a good week. We actually are going to have time for free time and trading in Todd Tickets! Keep it up!
2. Book report projects are due Tuesday, March 16th.
3. Have your child measure things around your house - we are working on measurement in inches and centimeters to the half inch.
4. We finished our little unit on nouns, verbs and adjectives and the kids are writing 10 Good Things about a classmate. This is a way to practice using adjectives!
5. Next week will be finishing our Sound and Light Unit. I will be sending home information on making an instrument out of recyclable materials.

Top Ten for Week of March 2nd

Top Ten for Week of March 2nd:
1. We have 21 detectives in the classroom! We are fully into our Mystery Unit and are having a lot of fun!
2. I have a mystery bag in the display case and the "detectives" have to figure out what's inside. It will change weekly, so be sure to ask the kids what was in it!
3. The kids are now word detectives too. They are using their detective skills to look up guide words, definitions, etc in the dictionary.
4. We are working on measurement in math. Please review measuring inches and centimeters at home.
5. Remember mystery book report projects are due on March 16th . If you finish the project before then, feel free to send it in.
6. We have been working on nouns and verbs to help our writing.

Top Ten for Week of February 16th

Top Ten for Week of February 16th:
1. What a great job the kids did at the concert! It is so wonderful seeing everyone sing their hearts out! Dr. J did a wonderful job!
2. The field trip was great! The kids really enjoyed the show especially when Pinnochio ran by us!
3. We will be starting our new unit on Mysteries next week. We will start out by being word detectives - learning dictionary skills!
4. Our reading skill for next week: vowel review
5. We will be starting Journal 2 in math. I am sending home Journal 1for the students to keep at home for extra practice.
6. We will be working on Country, State, City in Social Studies.
7. Be on the lookout for a special mystery homework assignment to be coming home next week!

Top Ten for Week of February 8th

Top Ten for Week of February 8th:
1. The Fairy Tale Ball was a hit!! I loved seeing all the costumes - handsome princes and beautiful princesses!
2. Thank you to Mrs. O'Brien for putting together a very fun Valentine's Day Party and to all the moms who stayed to help.
3. In reading groups, we are reading books about the Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Mt. Rushmore. The kids will be giving little speeches about these books. Ask your child what book he/she is reading.
4. The kids read a story about Abe Lincoln this week - ask them what they learned.
5. We have really been working on inferences in reading. This is a skill they are going to need to be good at as we start our Mystery Unit next week!

Top Ten for Week of February 1st

Top Ten for Week of February 1st:
1. Monday is the Rah, Rah Party and the 100th Day of School. Can you believe a 100 days of school have passed already?!
2. Our Valentine's Day party will be on the 12th from 11:00 to 11:55. (After the Fairy Tale Ball)
3. Fairy Tale Ball - Friday Feb. 12th at 10:30 am in Multi-purpose room. Looking forward to seeing the costumes!
4. We have been learning about George Washington this week. Ask your child to share a fact that they have learned about him.
5. The kids did a great job reading to Mrs. Savage's class. Thanks for practicing the stories at home - it paid off!
6. Our Sound and Light Unit has kicked off. We will be doing our first experiment on Friday.
