Our 206 All Stars!

This week we continued our study of the rain forest by reviewing the layers, emphasizing the importance of not chopping the trees down, and discussing how much soil would be lost if there were no trees to soak up the water. We reviewed all the beauty and oxygen that would be lost if there were no rain forests left.

By the way, our bean plants (mini-rainforests) are growing very well!

The month of March is finally here and has brought many new topics and projects to Room 206. It looks like it is going to be a great month of fun and learning!

On to a Healthy Life!

This was our final week for studying Nutrition. As we look back on all our activities in which we participated, one thought stands out in our minds: Balance is the key!

The ancient Greeks used moderation as their philosophy to a healthy life and we emphasized that concept many times over these last few weeks. What we have learned is quite simple:

Eating some ice cream or a cookie every now and then is fine, as long as, most of what we eat is nutritious. Healthy eating is a healthy way of life.

Healthy Eating/Healthy Fun!

Valentine's Day is about being "Heart Smart"

Keeping with the theme of Valentine's Day this week, we continued to focus on healthy eating, especially for a healthy heart. Being "heart smart" is not a choice but a necessity. Ask us about the activity we did on Valentine Friday to learn about how smoothly and efficiently our heart works!

We also focused on two food groups: protein and fats/sweets. We learned that fats and sweets are fine, as long as, they don't take the place of nutritious food. We have to remember that balance is the key.

On Monday, we celebrated the 100th day of school with a variety of writing and math activities. We also brought home a hundred dollar bill. Don't you wish it was real???
