Second Quarter Updates

The second quarter ended January 20th.  Report cards will be sent home on January 27th.  If your child receives speech and language services, an update on his or her progress in speech will be sent home as well.  Please keep an eye out for your update.

Updates & Conferences

It 's hard to believe but the first quarter ended on October 28th.  Updates regarding progress on speech and language goals will be mailed home on November 4th.  If your child had an IEP meeting within the last 4 weeks, then you will not receive an update as goals were recently updated at the meeting. 

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, November 9th and Tuesday, November 10th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  I will be available to meet in my office, Room 106, unless I am attending a conference.  If you would like to set up a specific time to meet, please contact me.

International Stuttering Awareness Day

October 22nd is National Stuttering Awareness Day.  Stuttering disrupts the forward flow of speech through hesitations, sound prolongations, and part or whole word repetitions.  Most people who stutter have normal intelligence and language skills.  They just have difficulty speaking fluently.  Speech-language therapy can assist people who stutter learn to speak more fluently.  For more information regarding stuttering please visit:  www.stutteringhelp.org

 

Animation of Speech Sounds

Many of the children receiving speech-language services are working on the correct production of speech sounds which also called articulation.  I have included a link that was developed by the University of Iowa that will allow you to view and hear the correct production of each speech sound.  When you arrive at the web site, please click on the desired language you wish to view.  The sounds are divided into categories based on how they are produced.  For example if you click on the category “stops”, you will then be able to see and hear the production of the sounds /p, b, t, d, k,
