HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL
Happy Valentine's Day
One red
valentine, two red valentines, three red valentines, four,
I cut and I cut and I paste and I
paste
And then I make many, many more.
Yes, we did make many, many more
at school this week. The children were eager to make something special to
celebrate this minor holiday that focuses on LOVE. Afterall, that's what Valentine's Day is all about, treating
your loved ones to a little extra special attention. They enjoyed all of our
stories about animals (Froggy, Arthur, Rotten Ralph and Splat the Cat) who
think they are falling in love, pass out valentines cards, and end up being
embarrassed by a kiss from an admiring friend. We did discuss how we are much
TOO young for such romances...we save our hugs and kisses for family. They did
get a big kick out of the mythology surrounding CUPID. The magic love arrows
really intrigued them and we took turns playing at Cupid and "flinging" love
arrows around our room. We did
attempt to make a baby Cupid with wings out of a paper plate, which, of course,
the boys wanted to turn into his arrows.
Everyone likes to put his/her own spin on the LEGEND (vocab). They are adorable when they pretend
play.
Most of our week was spent drawing, cutting, pasting and printing on our school valentines. They were anxious to add their cards to our large beribboned mailbox (laundry basket) and even more anxious to pass them out to friends. We made a big deal of each step, so that by Friday we were all informed and ready to celebrate the legend we call Valentine's Day. Thanks again to our wonderful room mothers and parents that came in to help make things flow smoothly. The children love a party and the extra hands allows us to incorporate so much more. And yes, we are all getting intothe habit of sharing healthy snacks.
NOTE: Our GROUNDHOG SALAd was a big hit. Everyone enjoyed showing what they brought in, handling all of the produce, chopping it up with plastic cultlery and mixing it in a large bowl. We soaked it all to make sure it was perfectly clean and passed it our for snack along with some ranch dressing. This made everything go down esier. We have some children who are very comfortable eating greens, others who decided to be a bit more adventurous than usual and a handful that cannnot make themselves try something green and different. We'll keep trying and you do the saame.
WEEK OF Feb. 13th: We will
celebrate OUR PRESIDENTS, the flag and discuss our currency. On Friday we will
have a patriotic parade so please dress your child in RED, WHITE AND BLUE if
possible.
