The Todd Hall Library serves over 400 students in grades PreK-2. Students are introduced to literature, genres, library skills and more while also engaging in fun reading and research activities. We hope to instill a love of books and reading in every child.

Monarch Voting Begins!

The Monarch Book Awards are a State of Illinois book award organized through ISLMA, the Illinois School Library Media Association. What makes them unique is that Illinois kindergarten, first and second grade students act as the judges, and their votes determine which book wins the title. Last year's winner, Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude by Kevin O'Malley, was the runaway winner and was insanely popular with all the kids. This year the playing field is a little more level; it's difficult for Mrs. Nilapant and I to guess which one will win. The early votes are showing a few titles neck-in-neck for the win. I'll announce the Todd Hall winner soon, but the State of Illinois winner will take a few more weeks.

Dial III Preschool Screening and Valentine's Day

This year Dial III Preschool Screening was once again held in the Todd Library, but I got tons of cataloging done, so all in all the day was a success. Valentine's Day falls next weekend, and the kids and I have been enjoying Valentine's Day-themed stories, when we are not voraciously reading Monarch books in anticipation of our school-wide vote in a couple weeks. I shared one of my favorite books with the kids, My Penguin Osbert in Love, and a Todd Hall student favorite, Olive, My Love, starring the dog from the book Olive the Other Reindeer. It was heartwarming to receive valentines from many students on Friday, as well as cookies from a generous family.
