Top 10 Things For the Week of February 15th - 19th

Top Ten For the Week of February 15th - 19th.

Here are a few things we did during our busy week of school.

1. Text Talk: We read Little Polar Bear and the Brave Little Hare. The words we focused on were embarrassed, warn, concerned, thumped, steep, and frigid.

2. Phonics: The students read a letter from me telling them what great readers they are. We also practiced making different words with the same ending.

3. Making Meaning: We read the story Cookie's Week and continued to practice the skill of visualizing. Visualizing helps children to understand and connect mental images to something that is read or heard. Creating mental images helps readers understand and enjoy texts.

4. Math: We learned about 3-dimensional shapes, used a drumbeat to measure time, and were introduced to the penny and nickel.

5. Class Meeting: We had a discussion about how we need to treat our friends. Some friends were making fun of another friend for having a certain backpack.

6. Writing: We learned about sentences and how they must be a complete thought. We looked through books about dogs and wrote down information we learned about them.

7. Thinking Skills: We worked on visualizing. The students looked at pictures and used clues to figure out what the rest of the picture was. They also drew pictures of what they were visualizing from looking at part of a picture.

8. Time for Kids: We learned about how to take care of our teeth.

9. Handwriting: We reviewed the letters that we have done so far- L, I, T, O, A, and D.

10. Upcoming dates: No School Friday, February, 26th for Institute Day.
Kindergarten Music Concert Thursday, March 18th .

Have a wonderful weekend!
