Top Ten Things- Feb. 19th

1. Fairy Tale Play- We went on a field trip to see a live performance of Pinnochio on Friday as a culminating activity to study on fairy tales.

2. Music Show- The second grade music show was Thursday night. The kids sang, danced and played instruments for parents and teachers to watch. It was a HUGE success! Thanks to Dr. J for all her hard work preparing the children for this exciting annual event.

3. Math- Equivalent fractions and identifying fractions in collections was our main focus.

4. Paragraph-We kicked off our first paragraph writing assignment. We are writing about ourselves.

5. Phonics- oa/ ow was the phonics pattern we practiced this week.

6. Daily Café- Our Daily Café bulletin is up and running! The students have learned that there are actually four components to reading: comprehension, fluency, accuracy and vocabulary - and that we each have unique areas in which we can improve. Each week we will be learning a new "tip" for one of these four categories, posting it on our bulletin and practicing it with our teacher while working in small groups.

7. Wondering- During our Making Meaning reading comprehension lessons we have been learning about how questioning while we read enhances our reading experience.

8. Art- We are learning how to paint natural scenery such as leave and trees.

9. Pencils- We are running very low on our pencils in the classroom. Donations are welcome!

10. Yearbook Orders were due on Tuesday. Yearbooks will arrive in the last few weeks of school.
