Week of September 15, 2008
Submitted by Ms Dekrell on Fri, 2008-09-12 14:10.In Reading, we will begin Making Meaning. We will be reading the stories McDuff Moves In and Poppleton. We will continue to review short vowels and their patterns during phonics instruction. This week we will focus on the short e.  Our class will also continue with the Horizons reading program to build fluency and comprehension skills.
In Spelling, students will receive new words every Monday along with a purple sight word contract. Students are to complete one activity from the contract and turn it in by Friday. We will engage in a variety of multi-sensory activites to help students recognize and spell these words. Spelling tests will be given every Friday.
In Writing, students will be working on creating "super sentences." These are sentences containing more descriptive language and details. We will also continue to reinforce the basic mechanics.
Welcome Back!
Submitted by Ms Dekrell on Sun, 2008-09-07 16:35.    It is hard to believe that we are beginning our third week back in school!
A few reminders...my e-mail address has changed to jdekrell@sd74.org. Please don't hesitate to e-mail our call me if you have any questions or concerns. Also, Reading Records were sent home for the first time last week. Please remember to sign these nightly and send back with your child each day. Daily reading is an important daily assignment and is a requirement for participating in monthly Rah-Rah parties. Â
In reading, we are beginning with a review of short vowels and will then proceed to begin learning long vowel sounds with "the magic e." We will also be using a new reading program this year called Horizons. Horizons helps to build reading fluency and comprehension skills. Â
