10 DAYS AND COUNTING

                   Â
May 15th is right around the corner and I am still missing 14 dental exams for the kindergarten class and 38 exams for the 2nd graders.  Please remember, these children will not be able to receive their report cards until these exams are in my office.
Last month I sent home dental forms for all the children missing one. If you have misplaced it, please contact my office and I will be happy to send you another one.
If you have any questions, please call:

Dental Reminder

                                Â
Parents, this is a reminder that all kindergarten and 2nd grade students are required to have a dental exam on file by May 15th, 2008. Please be sure to make an appointment as soon as possible so that you can get these records to me on time. If anyone is having trouble getting in to see the dentist, I have been told that Resurrection healthcare is offering free dental screenings that will satisfy the states requirement for an exam. Please call RES-INFO @ 1-877-737-4636 to schedule a time. Don't wait, because these times fill up quickly and there are only 36 spots left.

Hello everyone, well it looks as if winter has descended upon us. We have had the cold temperatures and now we have the snow. With this in mind I wanted to discuss a few things.Â

Fevers
Submitted by Mrs Rantisi on Wed, 2007-09-26 14:21.Dear Parents, I think now is a good time to review the policy on fevers.
When a child has a temperature of 99.4 or higher they should stay home from school. If they develop the fever while in school they will be sent home. The next step is very important. They can only return to school when their temperature is under 99.0 for a straight 24 hour period without the use of medicine to keep it down. That means the first time you get a temperature under 99.0 you start the 24 hour countdown, if at any time the temperature goes above 99.0 you must start a new 24 hour period. This is for the health and well-being of your child and all the other children and staff in the building. Viruses and bacterias can be very pesky and even though someone does not have a high fever this does not mean that something is not starting. Low grade fevers should be treated with rest and plenty of fluids.
Be prepared for me to ask what your childs temperature is if I have sent them home. If you do not have a thermometer you can purchase one at any local store like Osco, Walgreens, Wal Mart, Target or K-Mart. My only concern is to try and keep everyone as healthy as possible as we head into the fall and eventually winter seasons.
Immunization/Health records
Submitted by Mrs Rantisi on Fri, 2007-09-21 08:09.Hello to you all. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.
Well here we are into another school year. My office is bustling with trying to get all the health records together for the state report. I wanted to remind everyone, that if your child's records are not here by the state deadline of Oct. 15th they will be excluded from school. Believe me, nobody wants to see that happen, so please get the records in ASAP. I have sent out reminders, at times double reminders. I apologize for this. After looking at so many records all day long, sometimes a sent reminder is forgotten and another will mistakenly go out. I ask for your patience and understanding and if you have questions please don't hesitate to call me, 847-745-3732.
Preparing for a new school year....
Submitted by Mrs Rantisi on Tue, 2007-08-07 23:59.Hello everyone, I hope you are all enjoying your summer and stayng healthy and safe. There are only 3 weeks left before the beginning of a new school year and I want to remind everyone to please be sure and have the childrens physicals and immunizations up to date. Please bring the forms on the 1st day of school, if possible. The sooner they are in the better.
Also, any child who will be keeping medication in my office will need to bring the medication along with a signed order from the doctor. These forms were given out last June, at the end of the school year. If anyone needs a new form, please be sure to pick one up on the 1st day of school. I am not allowed to keep any medication without a signed physicians order.
Please enjoy the rest of this wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing all of you in a few weeks.
If anyone needs to contact me please do so via e-mail, I try to check it daily.
Sincerely,Â
Nurse Donna
Report cards & Dental records
Submitted by Mrs Rantisi on Thu, 2007-05-31 12:56.Tuesday, June 5th, is the last day of school and report cards will be issued to the students. As per Illinois state law, your child's report card will not be given if their dental record is not on file. Currently there are 6- kindergarten students and 7- 2nd graders that will NOT be receiving their report cards along with the rest of the class. These will be sent to the front office and will be turned over when a dental exam is handed in. This is the last chance to have them in my office.
Thank You
Strep throat
Submitted by Mrs Rantisi on Thu, 2007-05-31 08:22.Recently we've had several children with strep throat. With summer looming ahead I wanted to let everyone know what symptoms to look for;
- Sore throat
- Red and/or white patches in the throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Red and enlarged tonsils
- HeadacheÂ
- Lower stomach pain
- Fever
- Loss of appetite and nausea
- Just not feeling well
- Rash   Â
Please understand, they will not exhibit all of these symptoms but this gives you an idea of what to look for.
Strep throat is easily treated with antibiotics, left untreated or if the entire course of medication is not taken, it can lead to other health issues such as rheumatic fever (which can cause permanent damage to the heart), scarlet fever, blood infections, or kidney disease.
During the school year it is vital that my office is made aware if your child is diagnosed with strep. As you all know letters are sent home, so please call me when the Dr. tells you your child has strep throat.
